Minutes from Club Meeting - March 5th

Thought of the week

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.

March theme is Water and Sanitation.

Our President Jeritza came to speak on this very subject. We are open to outside speakers for the rest of the month and would be open to suggestions for this theme, whether it is a speaker or a group that can come talk to us.

      • Senior Advisor Seymour asked Rev. Menes Hodge if he could come to do the opening prayer.
      • Rtn Seymour reminded the new members that the gazebo is a joint project of 3 Rotary clubs (2 from Maine and the Anguilla Club). 6 Rrotarians came to help the local Rotarians during the construction phase prior to hurricane Irma.
    • Reminder of the Rotary Club of Anguilla (RCA) role in projects:
      • Rtns Genefa and Seymour explained that only Rotary assists with projects and then hand them over to the community. For legal purpose and as a requirement of RI, Rotary clubs should not have any assets or recurring responsibilities
      • It was the same for the computer lab in the High School. RCA helped and delivered the lab in partnerships with Flow. The school is responsible for maintenance.
      • Same for the elevator in the High School. The Government will be responsible for the maintenance of elevator at Campus B. Project not fully completed as the company is still waiting for parts.
      • 2 separate MOU for maintenance of gazebo and for elevator.
    • President Jeritza introduced our guest Ms Vernice Gumbs, as the incoming president of the Rotary club of St Thomas Two. Ms Gumb’s presented her club’s greetings.

    • HANWASH stands for Haiti National Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy: a collaborative, national initiative by Rotary District 7020, The Rotary Foundation and DINEPA (The Haitian Government’s National Water and Sanitation Agency), partnering with other NGO’s such as Haiti Outreach and Pure Water for the World, committed to providing thoughtfully managed and sustainable clean water and sanitation to all the citizens of Haiti, along with the associated health, community and economic benefits..
    • The Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) was formed in 2007 by a group of Rotarians, recognized by Rotary International, and focused on WASH projects. Since then it has facilitated many hundreds of projects – helping clubs find partners, ensuring sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, and developing best practices.
    • Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary’s people of action mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that yield long-term change
